31 December, XXXIX A.S.:

Happiest of New Years!

Tomorrow begins year XL, Anno Satanas, and we have many delights prepared for our treasured members.

XXXIX was a year of growth, productivity, and recognition in many arenas. That will continue, as there is much already in progress which will come to fruition in this new year.

Our admirable comrades who apply their unique talents with savage gusto towards “moving the world” have won a special place in our hearts. We raise our glasses to thee on this Dionysian night to celebrate the advent of an Indulgent New Year:

“Here’s to champagne for our real friends,
and real pain for our sham friends!”

Joy to the flesh—forever!

Shemhamforash! Hail Satan!

A “Superlative Solstice!” to true Satanists the world over.

As has become tradition, click on the image above to embrace the “Old Gent’s” evocation of this primordial holiday.

As all about you are losing their heads (and shirts!), we take the time to mark the seasonal change and fondly recall the indulgent feasting of the ancient Roman Saturnalia. We children of the night take delight in the wonders of the Earth, and celebrate our carnal heritage in this world without end!

Hail Satan!

As an antidote to all the “X-mess” frenzy swirling about you, you might like to tune in to The History Channel on 27 December for Hell: The Devil’s Domain. It is a two-hour program in which the Church of Satan participated. Check local listings for the time. We have yet to see the finished version, but the producers were working towards a broad exploration of the topic, so it should prove to be of interest.

JOSH ALAN FRIEDMAN: WHEN SEX WAS DIRTY
Friday, December 3, 7:00 - 10:00pm

Writer, musician, and the subject of an upcoming feature-length documentary loosely based on his 1997 blues album “Blacks n’ Jews,” Josh Alan Friedman chronicles the twilight days of the sexual revolution in New York and Texas in his latest book, WHEN SEX WAS DIRTY (Feral House, December 2004). Celebrating its release, he discusses his compelling face-to-face reporting on the Big Apple’s licentious assortment of pimp laureates, porn starlets, evangelical strippers, and more. A book signing follows the discussion.

Friedman is the author of TALES OF TIMES SQUARE, a cult classic that is considered by many the granddaddy of all New York sex books. His writing has appeared in Penthouse, High Times, National Lampoon, Hustler, Screw, The Dallas Observer, and Texas Monthly. In an alternative universe, he has rocked whole arenas with his Guild D-40 band, opening for acts including Bad Company, War, Huey Lewis & The News, Lonnie Mack, Mitch Ryder, and Marianne Faithfull.

GREETINGS FROM HELL

Chris Redstar: Greetings From Hell

Here is our German Agent Chris Redstar’s description of his new book:

Actually it contains my perspectives on almost every aspect of life and Satanism, explained to interested “outsiders.” We do have German translations of the writings of Dr.LaVey, but they are flawed in my opinion. The German translation of TSB contains errors and there are misunderstandings in the introductory material. Here in Germany, there is often no difference in the public opinion between us and insane serial killers. So there is a need for this book, basically a “Satanism for Dummies” written in German. It consists of 12 chapters, including Satan, Satanism, the origin of religions and gods, politics and society, my interpretation of John’s Revelation from a Satanic perspective (The Antichrist), thoughts on Aesthetics, the nature of magic, some FAQs, a summary of the history of the Church of Satan and it’s structure and essays by Magister Rose, Magister Lang, and Reverend Svengali. The cover art and inside illustrations are made by Markus Mayer.

I doubt that there is anything really new for many Satanists, but it is still a nice and sometimes funny read.

C.R.

2 November, XXXIX A.S.:

Today, here in the USA it is election day, and we’ve been approached by many reporters and pundits hoping to find that the Church of Satan supports a particular candidate—usually the one running against the person they have selected for their vote. As an aside, they also have been asking about that crappy faked photo of Kerry “meeting” Anton LaVey. Apparently their critical faculties are impaired by their desire for some sort of scoop.

Generally, we must disappoint them, as the Church of Satan has no political dogma and does not endorse candidates. Our members determine their own personal political agendas, based on pragmatism. Satanists are not idealists, and they don’t vote in any sort of block. They are individualists who have set their own personal standards, who vote for the candidates that they have decided will have a positive impact on their lives. So amongst our members there are conservatives, liberals, republicans, democrats, independents, libertarians, and just about everything else that could be found in the spectrum of politics. The only basic commonality might be that Satanists tend to seek candidates that are supportive of civil liberties, as we are not interested in living under some theocratic system which would prohibit our personal freedom.

31 October, XXXIX A.S.:

A “Happy Halloween!” to true Satanists the world over.

Last year’s message by Magus Gilmore struck a dark chord for many, so we’ve decided to bring it back for those who missed it:

Tonight is the night when the mundane folk try to reach down inside and touch the darkness—which for us is a daily mode of existence. Particularly in the United States, Halloween is a time for celebrating “monster films,” wearing costumes of a macabre nature, and evoking the thrill of “fun fear.” Children of all ages can indulge their fantasies by donning garb that allows for intense role playing and the release of those demonic cores, oft hidden in the oubliettes of their psyches.

Though there are traditions which make this an occasion for recalling the dead, it has been popularized as a time to play with what historically were fears directed towards the unquiet spirits of the departed. And the grand traditional question “Trick or treat?” has become a means for fulfilling an indulgence in sweets, without the need to resort to the stated coercing device. We thus embrace what this holiday has become, and do not feel the need to be tied to ancient practices. This night, Satanists smile at the amateur explorers of their own inner darkness, for we know that they enjoy their brief dip into the pool of the “shadow world.” So on this eve of magic and mystery, we encourage their tenebrous fantasies, the candied indulgence, and the wide-ranging evocation of our aesthetics (while tolerating some of the chintzy versions), even if it is but once per annum. At other times of the year, when those not of our tribe shake their heads in wonder at us, we can point out that they may find some understanding by examining their own All Hallows Eve doings, as an alternative to our recent favored saying: “We’re just part of the Addams clan.”

So, have an indulgent, mysterious, and deeply satisfying Samhain!

Magus Peter H. Gilmore

Magistra Blanche Barton

The Trident No. 16

The Trident #16

Issue #16 of The Trident is the Death issue, but it is not the “downer” that the naļve might expect. Reverend Paulis gives us a tour of “Strange Austrian Burial Rites,” and as a proper book-end, Uncle Otto brings us to “The Museum of Funeral Customs” while aptly, there is an interview with Warlock Owen Leitsch, known for his intricate Necrosculptures. 27 October, XXXIX A.S.:

One of our members in the Royal Navy recently won the right to be officially registered as a Satanist, and of course the press has got wind of it and a number of articles and discussions are being presented in all the major media. As is usual with contemporary journalistic lassitude, there is often a confusion of Satanism with devil-worship, but enough of our philosophy is being transmitted so that properly inclined individuals will take notice. Magus Gilmore has appeared on a couple of UK radio chat shows to clarify misconceptions, and our UK members and spokespersons have skillfully come to the fore and represented us with fervor, intelligence, and grace. This is spilling over into the US media, and our spokespersons here are also working to keep the issues on target.

Those who know our history will recall that the first public Satanic funeral was back in the early years of our organization’s existence, when a US Navy man died in a traffic accident and was given a burial over which Magus LaVey was celebrant and which included a Naval honor guard and a rifle salute. Our members in the US military have long had the right to have their affiliation noted, but many choose to be underground as bigotry from superior officers can cause much grief in a military career. Recently, it became more difficult for this recognition, and one of our intrepid members enlisted senatorial help to have his membership with our Church officially noted.

We are very proud of our many members who now serve (and who have served in the past) in the militias of several different nations, as their bravery is extraordinary, and their integrity outstanding.

Events including our productive members and a worthy read to tickle your funnybone—

VISIONS FROM THE ABYSS
Reverend Steven Johnson Leyba and Stephen Kasner
will be showing new works together
in a San Francisco group show

Reverend Steven Johnson Leyba will be showing 11 new pieces in a group show at Balazo. 8 paintings will be pages from his 8th hand made book “The Great Satan.” This will be a sneak peak at some of the new work that will be showing at art@large in NYC in February (Feb. 11th opening in NY). Also member Stephen Kasner will have several paintings in the show.

Balazo Mission Badlands Gallery, Friday October 22, 9 pm
2811 Mission @ 24th

Art is often considered a celebration of the human condition and a vehicle to express the working of the human mind in its many manifestations. While some shy away from the darker, more infernal forces of the human psyche, others find power in expressing such subversive elements, bringing forth a beauty and luminescence from out of the gloom.

In a show featuring eight artists that choose to revel in the dark side, Visions From the Abyss, is set in the witching season of Halloween and the Day of the Dead. Bonded by a similar sentiment, yet varied in their personal styles, the art ranges from psychosexual collages to dark landscapes of urban decay and oil paintings rich in color and bizarre, twisted imagery.

Artists: Carl Auge, Judd Hawk, Eric Joyner, Stephen Kasner, Steven Leyba, Chris Trian, Txutxo Perez, Steve Richards, Dara Santhai

Several of the artists have appeared in Juxtapoz magazine, and Stephen Kasner is represented by the same agent as H. R. Giger.

The exhibit is curated by a resident artist of the Balazo Mission Badlands Gallery

WHEN WILL JESUS BRING THE PORK CHOPS?

Cover: George Carlin's

The most delightfully misanthropic humorist is back with a third book which will bring many laughs and perhaps some insights into the foibles of our silly species. Carlin includes advertisement parodies, surreal vignettes, cutting observations, odd reality show treatments, and rampant lampooning of just about everyone. He is obsessed with the implications of proliferating euphemisms, and continuously picks at that scab. There are also bizarre biographical sketches scattered throughout of a series of uncles which seem like they might be referring to far-flung members of the Addams family.

In addition to his disgust for the behavior of many humans, our readers will share his scathing contempt for most organized religions which he expresses without stinting.

To quote the maestro of mockery:

“Christians must be sick in the head. Only someone who hates himself could possibly think of the pleasures of masturbation as self-abuse.”

“People who see life as anything more than pure entertainment are missing the point.”

At the very least you’ll find quote-worthy lines to enrich your collection of “sig” files. We suspect that you will enjoy it as much as we did, and laugh yourself into tears. Click on the cover above to order a copy from Amazon.com.

We have another fine group of interesting items and events for our cherished members.

OCCULT INVESTIGATOR

Cover: Bob Johnson's

Author Bob Johnson’s second book* is a must for any who enjoy exploits along the lines of series such as The X-Files and the earlier Kolchak: The Night Stalker. Johnson details his founding of a paranormal investigative branch of a licensed detective angency, and then invites us along with he and his lovely psychic partner Silvana for vividly described exploits. It is a well-written collection of spooky case files which is just in time to help get you in the mood for the Halloween season.

Psychic Silvana and Investigator Bob Johnson

Of great interest to our audience is the chapter “The Satanists Next Door,” in which nosey neighbors are alarmed at Satanic rituals being performed in their apartment building (they overhear the music, smell the incense, and listen to the vigorous shouts of “Hail Satan!”). This could possibly happen to many of you! Johnson reveals to the bewildered that these Devil’s disciples are indeed the real thing, not what they imagine them to be from popular mythology.

So click on the cover above to order your copy from Amazon.com, and if you are interested in seeking out their services, click here or on the photo of the dynamic duo above.

*His first book, Corporate Magick: Mystical Tools for Business Success, provides sound advice in ritual and manipulative techniques for those afraid to embrace darker symbolism.

The October issue provides a detailed examination of the Marquis de Sade, a name known to many, but an author few have perused. There are guides to his writings, to biographical books, and to films made from his works and films with the divine Marquis as a character. Indeed, a true “Sade-fest” for your Epicurean delight! There is fiction and the usual informative columns as well for a very full issue. Click on the image above to open your mind to the revolutionary ideas of this man whose works have gone from pornography to classics.

Russ Meyer (1922-2004)

Russ Meyer

On September 22 we lost another fellow whose works are making the transition from pornography to classics: film-maker and photographer Russ Meyer.

The Immoral Mr. Teas

He was a pioneer of “skin flicks,” his early work featured the mild titillations of “The Immoral Mister Teas,” whose obsession brings to mind breasts regardless of what spheroids he’s viewing. Meyer’s main body of work includes the many wildly surreal movies in which women with immense bosoms (natural!) are the characters of power while their men are simply sex objects for athletic gyrations, such as “Vixen,” “Supervixens,” and “Beneath the Valley of the Ultra-Vixens.” There is much humor but no hardcore action in these films which Meyers described as “passion plays. ... Beauty against something that’s totally evil.” The evil was generally sexual repression, though it could be unjust violence which might lead to proper revenge as epitomized in “Faster Pussycat, Kill! Kill!” which has made the art house circuit for years. His proclivity for “cantilevered cuties” lead to the word “breast” being his signature.

Meyer’s film “Beyond The Valley of the Dolls” (written by Roger Ebert) is a campy, more mainstream romp through the dens of debauchery of the 70s, and certainly worth a look for any misanthropologist who might want to sample some of that decade’s sleaze. Some critics have even included it in their lists of the best films from that period. Meyer fit the definition of a film auteur, as he wrote, directed, photographed, and edited these films himself, and he became wealthy from their popularity. Click on his image at top for a link to an adult site which includes a detailed biography and film list. Click on the cover of “Mr. Teas” to visit Meyer’s own site which sells DVDs of his films as well as his autobiography: “Russ Meyer: A Clean Breast.”

So, the king is dead—long live the “King of the Nudies”!

Elmer Bernstein (1922-2004)

Elmer Bernstein

Yet another film music great has passed on (August 28), and the cinema will be the less for it. Bernstein’s remarkable career showed his wide range in the 1950s, wherein he scored the ultra-low budget sci-fi film “Robot Monster” (the alien was a guy in a gorilla suit wearing a space helmet with TV antennae), as well as the mega-spectacle “The Ten Commandments” by Cecil B. DeMille. His music in both cases was superb, and elevated both films accordingly.

Bernstein could use whatever style he felt worked best, and his jazz-flavored score for the Frank Sinatra vehicle “The Man With The Golden Arm” is a prime example. He also excelled at scoring comedies, and did not condescend to “mickey-mousing,” but wrote emotionally evocative music that added to the humor. Favorites are “Ghostbusters,” and the always delightful chronicle of Apollo vs. Dionysos, “Animal House.” He also did fine military scores for films such as “The Great Escape” and “The Bridge at Remagen.”

So keep your eye on the credits when watching many a film, and if you spot Bernstein’s name, you’ll know that you are in for a treat.

EVILSPEAK

DVD: EVILSPEAK

Finally, the uncut version of this diabolically entertaining 1982 film starring Clint Howard makes its way to DVD. As Coopersmith, an orphan enrolled in a military academy, he is harassed by just about everyone. Howard gives a convincing portrayal of a sad sack who finally, with the help of the spirit of a long-dead Devil-worshipper, exacts graphic revenge upon all who have unjustly wronged him. Coopersmith uses his computer to help unravel the secrets of an ancient grimoire, and the machine itself proves to be a gateway for the vengeful spirit’s manifestation. Through rites conducted in the ritual chamber hidden in the campus chapel’s basement, Coopersmith finally evokes what he requires for justice to be served.

FREAKS

DVD: FREAKS

Tod Browning’s 1932 landmark shocker also arrives on DVD. It frightened audiences when first shown as the cast was composed of actual freaks, and for many years it was considered a forbidden film. Dr. LaVey championed it during the time when it was not available—he had his own print for special showings. This grim tale of loyalty, betrayal, and vengeance is a Satanic classic.

Hans Bellmer:
Little Anatomy of the Physical Unconscious,
or The Anatomy of the Image

Hans Bellmer: Little Anatomy of the Physical Unconscious...

Dominion Press brings us a landmark volume, which in itself is an exquisite work of art. Hans Bellmer (1902-1975) was a cohort of the original Surrealists and Dadaists, producing paintings, photographs, drawings, and, most disturbingly, erotic sculptures of a peculiarly fragmented “doll” which he also photographed so as to embody specific perspectives on this artificial human lust object. This book presents the first English translation of Bellmer’s rhapsodic essay expounding his sensualist perspective wherein human perception focused through the lens of desire is integral to the creation of his art. The writing itself is a reflection of his visual creations, and Bellmer described this work as “poetic secrets and whims intermixed with cold, objective thought, and a certain scientific dryness.” He explores identity and perception, and in so doing produces a grimoire which advances the Surrealist “black art” of creating real world talismans to assist in the manifestation of one’s darkest dreams.

The book is a beautifully designed hardcover, with optically resonant, textured endpapers and a gold-embossed and textured cover image, which includes interior reproductions of Bellmer drawings to accompany the text. Joe Coleman, a modern master, presents a foreward and translator Jon Graham supplies an introduction that prepares one for the journey to follow. This work provides much to savor for those interested in Surrealism, human psychology, eroticism, and magic in a Pygmalion mode.

Bryan Moore’s COOL AIR

Cool Air

The H.P. Lovecraft Collection, Volume 1

Fans of Lovecraft’s writing often bemoan the lack of quality, authenticity, and atmosphere in many film adaptations of The Old Gent’s fiction. Now they can cease their cavils and embrace Bryan Moore’s superlative version of Cool Air. Moore scripted, directed, and stars as Randolph Carter, and he gives us a high quality film, shot in evocative black & white, which is evidently a labor of love. Jack Donner embodies Dr. Munoz to perfection, and the moody cinematography and detailed sets serve to bring this tale to the screen in a definitive manner.

This DVD includes four additional short films: Christian Matzke’s An Imperfect Solution (another take on Herbert West), and Nyarlathotep, and Anthony Penta’s The Hound and The Hapless Antiquarian. There are also interviews with the cast and crew of Cool Air, an interview with Lovecraft scholar S.T. Joshi concerning the material adapted in the included films, and even a couple of teasers for the annual H.P. Lovecraft Film Festival.

The care taken with the aesthetics of this release includes the exquisite design of the package and included booklet. This is an essential DVD for all Lovecraft aficionados. Click on the image above to visit Lurker Films’ site and order it, lest some nameless horror torment you.

Sangre Cavallum: Barbara Carmina

Sangre Cavallum: Barbara Carmina

This is the debut CD album of the Northern Portuguese traditionalist music group Sangre Cavallum, released on the Storm Records label, with distribution worldwide through Tesco. It features 18 tracks of well-wrought folk music, most newly composed and played on an array of traditional instruments (with some discreet use of modern sounds) as well as adaptations of historical pieces, which the ensemble describes as “Old and new tribute songs to the land of our birth.”

They are inspired by ancient folk customs, pre-Christian vestiges, and traditional music of their homeland in Northern Portugal/Galicia. Its history is one of warring Indo-European tribes, Celts and Romans and it is the intent of Sangre Cavallum to allow the voices of these ancestral specters to speak through their chants and melodies. If pagan sounds are what you seek, here are finely crafted tunes which will bring barbarous enchantment.

Sangre Cavallum’s “Barbara Carmina” is available for $16 postpaid in the USA from:

TESCO DISTRIBUTION USA
PO BOX 523, EASTON, PA 18044-0523 USA

23 July, XXXIX A.S.:

Today we have some musical items of import.

Jerry Goldsmith

Jerry Goldsmith

1929-2004

We mourn the loss on Tuesday, 21 July, of Jerry Goldsmith, one of the greatest film composers. Many of our readers will be familiar with his Oscar-winning music for “The Omen” as well as its two sequels. His work is noted for being able to reach and heighten the emotional core of any scene. Epic scores for military-themed films such as “Patton,” (who could forget those distant trumpet triplets?) “The Blue Max” and “MacArthur,” are landmarks of his earlier work. Science fiction triumphs include “Planet of the Apes,” “Alien,” “Logan’s Run” and “Star Trek, The Motion Picture” (the heroic main title of which became the theme for the TV series “Star Trek: The Next Generation”). He scored several other “Trek” films, including the most recent “Star Trek; Nemesis” and he composed the theme for the series “Star Trek: Voyager.” His opulent score for choir and orchestra for the Ridley Scott fantasy film “Legend” was jettisoned for the American version (Scott dumbed the film down for the US release), but it was fully restored for the director’s cut on DVD.

Anyone wishing to write music for films would do well to study this master’s body of work; recordings of his scores hold their own as pure, deeply moving music. “Bravo!” Maestro Goldsmith. You will be sorely missed, and never forgotten.

Lucifer Rising

Lucifer Rising soundtrack

At long last we have the ultimate audio documentation of the music for Kenneth Anger’s ground-breaking film/Working, “Lucifer Rising.” Michael Moynihan’s poetically evocative liner notes will take you along for the strange journey that was the stormy collaboration between BeauSoleil and Anger.

On disc one you will hear the complete film score recorded by BeauSoleil and the Freedom Orchestra from 1977-79. Disc two features long-lost recordings of The Orkustra, BeauSoleil’s “psychedelic chamber group” which inspired Anger to bring BeauSoleil on to this project, as well as music by his next band, The Magick Powerhouse of Oz, which shows what might have been musically wrought for Anger’s initial version of this film in 1967 had it then come to completion.

Bombay Dreams

Bombay Dreams

We saw a surprising musical the other night here on Broadway: Bombay Dreams. Composed by A R Rahman, it is almost the usual theatrical tale of a young man who dreams of success in the entertainment field, in this case Bombay's “Bollywood,” told in the manner of the stylized fantasy films which are produced in that Indian counterpart to Hollywood. The music is, for the most part, refreshingly exotic, with delicate turns of melody and much wonderful percussion—there are two solo percussionists placed on balconies flanking the stage who play with great gusto.

As one might expect, Akaash (Manu Narayan), the handsome, talented “slum boy,” attains his dream of becoming a star, and bedding the luscious Rani (Ayesha Dharker—a talented comedic actress as well as a Bombay Bombshell), whom he previously admired as the reigning film star. He had Rani posters plastering the walls of the hovel he shared with his grandmother, so this is quite a successful “Is-To-Be.” He gets caught up in his success, following advice from his director to keep his past secret, but ultimately acts in a just manner, helping those who helped him. Sadly, his best friend Sweetie (Sriram Ganesan), one of the Hijira (eunuchs) is killed by the Brahmin villain Vikram (Deep Katdare), who demonstrates the reality of the corruption of Bombay and how he used it for great personal success. He underestimates the power of a “film god,” regardless of his class origin, and so loses his bid for greater wealth. It is interesting to note that the hero can only attain what is just with the aid of money and power he has earned as a star. However, that achievement required him to temporarily sever ties with his past. He does not pine to return to poverty, but must learn how best to wield his new status. I have left out some major points so as not to provide complete “spoilers” for the plot.

Ultimately, the message of the show is delivered by Grandmother, who states that she’d prayed to the gods for many years and was still wearing the same old sari—so clearly your destiny is in your own hands. Additionally, since both Akaash and Rani came from the untouchable class, they prove that artificial caste systems cannot stifle the talents of those who really work their own personal magic—the power of the aristocracy of the able.

With the lush sets, gorgeous Indian costumes—which particularly show off the beautiful gals, exotic choreography, and some stand-out vocal talent (Ian Jutsun’s keening of the Lament for Sweetie’s funeral procession was particularly noteworthy—he’s somebody to watch), and a dynamite supporting cast who play many different roles with great aplomb, one would think this would sell-out regularly. Of course, it doesn’t, so it may not get beyond the New York and London productions.

If you enjoy musical theatre with superior music and production values, an exotic twist, and a rather Satanic “moral,” then do your best to catch this one before it is just a dream remembered.

16 July, XXXIX A.S.:

On July 14 the proposed Constitutional amendment intended to ban same-sex marriages was stopped for this session of Congress. That doesn’t mean it has been ended completely, as those wishing to impose Christian morality on everyone living in the United States may again push for this in the future. However, it does seem to be a positive sign for resisting religious intrusion into the secular government of the United States. We think that the Founding Fathers would be proud.

Hell Raising

The Council of Nine has decided that the time has come for an increase in the fee for lifetime Registered Membership in the Church of Satan. Just about two decades ago, Anton LaVey established the fee of $100, intending it to be an amount that would demonstrate a certain commitment from individuals who chose to affiliate and thus offer support to our organization. To again approach that level, our fee will henceforth be $200 in U.S. funds. The date this change will take place is the Summer Solstice, 20 June, 2004 C.E., so there is still time for ladies and gentlemen to join at our current price.

Zinnober 6

Zinnober 6

Zinnober is a German publication documenting the heretical cultural underground in Europe and throughout the world. Now under the able editorship of Dominik Tischleder and Thomas Michael, they have adopted the subtitle of “Aesthetic Mobilization” which fittingly set the tone for the variety of eclectic, non-conformist, and contrarian views you will find here. The September 2003 issue features intelligent and well-written articles which cover not only a wide spectrum of music groups (from early 1980s psychedelic-industrial trailblazers Factrix to more recent electronic or “neofolk” acts), but also writers like the gloomy WWII-suicide case Pierre Drieu la Rochelle and a translation of an in-depth interview with Germanic scholar Stephen Flowers. The magazine is sharp and professional in presentation, and warrants attention even outside the German-speaking realm. Click on the magazine cover to view their website.

David E. Williams:
Hope Springs A Turtle

David E. Williams: Hope Springs A Turtle

Misanthropic troubadour David E. Williams has released his first full-length album in eight years, and it is certainly worth the wait. Each piece, whether it includes his melancholy, husky vocals or not, is an audio “portrait” of some dark aspect of the human condition, and Williams varies his musical style to best capture the intended emotions of each. Some have a classical sound. Others have a more gloomy, almost “goth” caste. A few are in a more lush, orchestral style. All are sophisticated and deeply expressive.

To order directly from Mr. Williams, send $14 (postpaid) in U.S. funds to:

David E. Williams, P.O. Box 2422, Philadelphia, PA 19147 USA

PayPal payments are accepted at his web site:
